Civic Federation Awards to Honor Tyrone C. Fahner and The Boeing Company on September 21, 2015

July 02, 2015

The Civic Federation’s Annual Civic Awards Luncheon honoring Tyrone C. Fahner and The Boeing Company has been rescheduled for Monday, September 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the Palmer House Hilton. The event was not held on Thursday, June 18 as originally planned due to logistical conflicts with the time and location of the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup victory celebration. On behalf of luncheon co-chairs Lester Crown, Andrew J. McKenna and Michael J. Sacks, the Civic Federation congratulates the Chicago Blackhawks organization and thanks our luncheon guests for their continued support. We look forward to recognizing the inspiring civic contributions of our honorees in September.

Tyrone C. Fahner, Partner and former Chairman of Mayer Brown, will receive the Lyman J. Gage Award for Outstanding Civic Contribution by a Chicagoan. Mr. Fahner’s career spans the public and private sectors with service in the administration of Governor Jim Thompson, a term as Illinois Attorney General and his stewardship of Chicago’s business and civic interests as President of the Civic Committee of The Commercial Club of Chicago since 2010. In these roles, he has stepped willingly into some of our region’s greatest challenges including pension reform, criminal justice reform and redistricting reform. He serves on the Boards of Metropolis Strategies, Civic Consulting Alliance, Illinois Justice Project, Pritzker Military Museum and Library and the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad. Mr. Fahner is also a long-time supporter and former Board Chairman at the Shedd Aquarium.

The Boeing Company will be presented with the Addams-Palmer Award for Exemplary Civic Involvement by a Chicago Institution. Since arriving in Chicago in 2001, The Boeing Company set a high standard for corporate philanthropy by focusing on long-term investments and strategic guidance for key initiatives including early childhood education, protection of the environment and community development in low-income neighborhoods. In 2014, Boeing contributed over $188 million to U.S. nonprofit organizations including approximately $10 million to Illinois organizations such as Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the Trust for Public Land, New Leaders and The Ounce of Prevention Fund. Boeing employees also invested more than $41 million into their communities in 2014 through combined giving programs.

Both awards are named in honor of the civic leaders who founded the Civic Federation in 1894: Jane Addams, Bertha Honoré Palmer and Lyman J. Gage.
