What made you want to join the Civic Federation?
I wanted to join the Civic Federation because the organization has established a rare combination of credibility, influence and fairness that is rooted in what is best for Chicagoans and all residents of Illinois. As a public sector leader, my mission is to help drive positive outcomes for Illinoisans, regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum. That’s why I value the non-partisan, data-driven approach we apply to our research and recommendations. The Civic Federation has established a brand of authenticity that is recognized throughout Public and Private Sectors and it’s an honor to serve in an organization that is equitable in its treatment of our leaders.
What do you enjoy most about being a part of the Civic Federation?
I enjoy learning from my fellow members, some of which have been civically engaged across multiple administrations and policy changes. They bring a historical perspective to the importance of the work we do and help me grow as a leader. The thing I appreciate most is the brand of integrity the organization carries, which draws recognition and positive sentiment from fellow leaders and constituents who learn of my affiliation.
What's your favorite Chicago hidden gem?
I am a big fan of Chicago’s bike paths. During the height of the pandemic, I began exploring the city via some of the designated cycling trails. It was the first way I experienced many of our great neighborhoods and gave me a deeper appreciation for the beauty of our city. Since then, I purchased a road bike and joined a cycling club. Although I don’t ride as consistently as I’d like, I really enjoy experiencing the city in that way.
What's a project you're working on right now?
I lead local government and education for Google Public Sector in Illinois, and I am constantly advising leaders on ways they can enhance their operations and the services they provide to their customers. However, one of the solutions I am developing now will help drive innovation and equity at a local agency by leveraging Generative AI to provide services that will engage and support customers across five languages.
What's your go-to fun activity with your family?
My family and I really enjoy Chicago's culinary scene and public parks. One of our favorite things to do is to grab brunch on the weekend, then head to one of the parks together.
