Civic Federation: TIFs Are Good for Chicago Public Schools

This segment discusses the ongoing debate over the effect of the City of Chicago’s tax increment financing districts on Chicago Public Schools’ finances. Laurence Msall, President of the Civic Federation, says that TIFs have actually resulted in more money for CPS due to growth of the economic base and property value and noted that the City routinely declares a surplus of TIF dollars and gives the District half of that revenue.
